It’s Saturday afternoon, Sept 5 and I am at Long & Son to attend a friend’s viewing. And to my shock I discovered the death of my friend Morgan. Now I understand why I have failed to reach him by phone in recent attempts. Family, please accept my most sincere condolences. Morgan was special. And daughters, your dad loved you dearly. For me personally, I will never find a black Republican who exudes the party loyalty he did nor one with whom I can so vigorously debate and love the exchanges. Our birthdates are a day apart and he never let me forget that he was the elder genius and I was the dumb youngster and Democrat. Just as there’s been a big empty lot on Dundee’s Street, there will be an empty spot in my heart. But the fond and hilarious memories shall live and remain forever. I will share your dad’s passing with my family, especially Kenny, now an adult who also remembers Morgan and Haley fondly. Attendance restrictions at the VA Cemetery won’t allow me to attend his graveside service. But nothing will keep me from remembering the brotherly love we shared. For his life, to God be the glory!

To the family of Morgan Edwards, my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. I met Morgan when I was a student intern in PA. I moved to Charlotte in 1986 and was very surprised to learn was from here. While I never met his daughters, he often spoke of you (with great pride I might add). I regret I lost touch with him these last few years, but I sincerely hope you will find a way to present the work of his father if you have not already done so....he always talked about doing that.
