Elder Charles Manuel Weddington, Sr. 82 of Charlotte, NC passed away Sunday, April 4, 2021 at his residence. Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 10, 2021 at the United House of Prayer Mother House 2321 Beatties Ford Rd. Charlotte, NC 28216 at 11:00 am with Viewing and Visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will follow the United House of Prayer Mallard Creek Church Cemetery 1739 Grace Lane Charlotte, NC 28262.

Elder Charles Manuel Weddington, Sr., also affectionately known as “Pops,” “PaPa,” and “Big Brother,” was born August 18, 1938 to the late Apostle Robert Weddington, Jr. and St. Annie L. Weddington. He departed this earthly life on April 4, 2021 at home surrounded by family. Elder Weddington was educated in Cabarrus County at Logan High School and in Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System by attending Torrence-Lytle High School in Huntersville, NC. While attending Torrence-Lytle, he was the master drummer of the school band. Later he became a bus driver for the school system. On May 10, 1960, he married Sarah B. Long and from this union, seven children were born.
His name was placed on the House of Prayer roll at birth. The family initially attended Concord House of Prayer, but later moved their membership and helped to build Mallard Creek House of Prayer. After becoming an Elder in 1968, he soon became the Youth Pastor of Mallard Creek. Elder Weddington received the gift of the Holy Ghost and Fire in 1972. In the early 70’s, Daddy McCollough started the resurrection program and Elder Weddington with a G-Class number of 36 became the first member in Mallard Creek to make the floor. He loved working in the House of Prayer and when his sons became Elders and Pastors, he did all he could to support them within their houses in whatever way he could.
Elder Weddington was a legendary singer with a powerful and spiritual voice. Eventually he became the lead singer of the Sweet River Singers of Mallard Creek. For many years the group traveled throughout the kingdom, performing on Daddy McCollough’s program. Some of the more popular songs he led were: “I’m going to serve the Lord,” “He will provide,” “Help me,” “Confidential Dad,” and “When my soul is resting.”
Elder Weddington was a very passionate and dedicated long haul truck driver. He received countless awards for millions of miles of safe operations. He retired from ABF Motor Freight in 2017 after 50 years of service.
Elder C. Weddington, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother. He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 61 years, St. Sarah H. Weddington, seven children: Sis. Beverly Ethridge, Elder Charles Weddington, Jr. (Angela), Bro. Walter Weddington, Sr. (Anita), Elder Vincent Weddington, Sr. (Natalie), Missionary Charlene Sunkins (Andrew), Elder Melvin Weddington (Nichole), Sis. Shawn Spears (Michael) all of Charlotte; five sisters, Sis Bettie Harris (Johnnie), St. Mary Weddington, St. Phyllis Weddington, St. Margaret Weddington, St. Kaye Weddington all of Charlotte; one sister in law, Gwendolyn Weddington of Charlotte, NC; 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, other family members, and friends.
