Mrs. Carrie Bell Broome Craig 88, of Charlotte,NC. Passed away Monday June 19, 2017 at Novant Orthopedic Hospital Charlotte, NC. Funeral service will be held Monday June 26, 20127 at First Mt. Zion Baptist Church 1515 Remount Rd. Charlotte, NC 28208 . Visitation will begin at 11:30 am and the service will follow at 12:00 pm . The remains will lie in state at 11:00 am. Interment will be in York Memorial Park.
Obituary
Mrs. Carrie Bell Craig was born on August 20, 1928 in Charlotte, NC to the late John Henry and Doretha King Broome. She departed this life on June 19, 2017 at the age of 88.
She was educated in the Charlotte Public Schools and graduated from the Wood Morgan Cosmetology School. This prayerful, dedicated, and God-fearing woman was joined in marriage to Robert Lee Craig, Sr. in June of 1945. She was a devoted sister, wife, mother, and homemaker.
She was a dedicated and active member of First Mt. Zion Baptist Church for over 70 years and volunteered in several areas including the Missionary Department. She was a member of the Washington Heights Community Association. Carrie Bell was an active and devoted founding member of the Broome Family Association and served on its Board of Directors.
Affectionally known as “Mama Carrie” her memory and amazing smile will be kept alive forever in the hearts of those who adored her most. While her time may have ended on earth; her journey is far from over as she lives on in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, with a love that will be cherished always.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, son Robert Lee Jr., and five siblings, Marie Wallace, John Henry Broome, Jr., Martha Alford, Roosevelt Broome, and Gazella Broome.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Betty Dial (Freddie) and Marie Howard (Herbert); daughter in law, Rena Craig, sister/niece, Mercier Leeper, brother-in-law, John Dixon (Ann), grandchildren Yolanda Dial Currence (Jeffrey), Tamara Dial (James Gore), Drena Howard, Craig Howard, Checonna Gaddy (Stephen), Robert Craig III (Sanetra), Altavia Craig, great-grandchildren Haley Currence, Jefferey Currence, Jr., Qua’Niya Young, Jacary Gaddy, Kamden Gaddy, Jayden Craig, Omari Youngblood, Makenzie Youngblood, Cayden Howard, Dial Jean Gore and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
