You were my sisters friend first, and my mom’s friend in Islam and beyond. I watched you as child enjoy life with all of the vibrance one could possibly have. I watched in awe at your feminity and grace, and the way you could light up a room, especially on the dance floor. In my young impressionable mind you embrace a social presence that I admired. As a mother you raised great independent women and a man. When you became mother’s neighbor you give her the greatest joy and the best year. For that I thank you. She will truly miss you, as will I. I really discovered who you were in my classroom at Strayer University. You were such a great scholar and a diligent and dedicated student who earned A's. You were the nurturer in the classroom and all the students listened when you spoke. You taught me about passion for communities through the papers you created. I will miss you in the hallways of Strayer where I realize that your goal was to be the first person in your family to graduate with a degree. You have indeed earned your place in academia as a true, dedicated, hardworking scholar. Class of 2017! May Allah hold your family in grace! Love, Professor Rasheedah Alexander
