Life Reflections
Mrs. Amie Carolyn Magazine Ruth, affectionally known as Cookie by family, was born on August 16, 1960 in Bishopville, South Carolina to the late Andrew James Magazine and Clara Bell Boyd Magazine at their home. She transitioned into eternal rest on August 18, 2018 at her home after a extended illness.
Amie was educated in the Lee County Public school system and graduated from Bishopville High School in 1978. While in high school, she was a cheerleader and drove school buses. She attended Columbia Junior College where she made the Dean’s List and graduated with an Associate Degree in Business-Secretarial Science in 1980.
She began her Christian walk as a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church at an early age. She was later united in marriage to Edgar Ruth at Elizabeth Baptist Church on June 30, 1984. To this union, three children were born. As a part of her Christian experience, she joined Silver Mount Missionary Baptist Church where she was a Trustee’s wife.
She started her professional career at New York Life where she was employed for 10 years. She then worked with Richland County School District in Columbia, South Carolina. When she moved to Smyrna, Georgia, she worked with the Cobb County School District. Her last place of employment was with Selective Insurance in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Fittingly, Amie was given the name Cookie because she was a sweet and loving person. She took pride in her appearance and loved reading the book of Proverb in the Bible. She loved to cook, the color purple, sports, music, event planning, and cats. Most of all, she loved her family and prided herself on being a great wife and mother.
Amie was proceeded in death by her parents, Andrew and Clara Bell Boyd Magazine, and her brothers, Steven Leroy, Andrew Jacob, Wilson, and Richard Magazine.
She leaves to cherish her sweet memories her husband, Edgar Ruth of Charlotte, North Carolina. One daughter, Brittney Ruth of Charlotte, North Carolina. Two sons, Jonathan Ruth and Jordan Ruth both of Charlotte, North Carolina. Two brothers, Earnest Magazine and Nathaniel Magazine both of Cassatt, South Carolina. Seven brothers-in-law, Wilton (Geraldine) Ruth, Jr., Willie Ruth, Bobby Ruth, Sammie Ruth, and David (Chandra) Ruth all of Bishopville, South Carolina, Larry (Glenda) Ruth of Timmonsville, South Carolina, and Wilson (Mabel) Ruth of Savannah, Georgia. Three sisters-in-law, Mary (Freddie) Austin, Betty Ruth, and Angela Ruth, all of Bishopville, South Carolina. Five aunts, Jessie Haggins of Bishopville, South Carolina, Loretta Magazine-Collier of Atlanta, Georgia, Mattie Magazine-Westry of Bishopville, South Carolina and Betty Magazine of Chicago, Illinois, Emma Magazine of Germany. Three uncles: James Parker of Chicago, Illinois, Joseph Boyd of Bethune, South Carolina, and Jasper (Sheri) Magazine of Kissimmee, Florida and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
