Her Precious Life
Alberta Corrine Godett, (affectionately known as Bert and Mom-Mom), was born on March 2, 1926 in Amherst, VA to the late Betty Randolph (Jones). She was the oldest of thirteen children. Alberta went home to be with her Lord and Savior on, Friday, September 1, 2017. She was surrounded by her loving and devoted daughters until God called her home.
She was educated in Amherst, Virginia and then relocated to Philadelphia, Pa. at an early age where she began to start a new life for herself. There she met and fell in love with John Henry Godett (who proceeded her in death). They were married on March 8, 1946. Out of that union they had six (6) daughters, known as “The Godett Girls”. Always instilling the Word of God in them from a young age.
Mom, held several positions throughout her life; eventually retiring from Richard & Co. a division of Benswanger Management Corporation
She was a faithful member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Albert F. Campbell, for over thirty-five years. She truly loved the Lord and her Church Family. She had a special seat in the Church and she made sure she was there early enough to get her favorite seat. She served in several ministries; the Women’s Guild, Hospitality Committee and the Flower Club.
In her later years, she relocated to Monroe, North Carolina. She joined Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church and loved her Church family and the special attention that was shown to her, especially by the Trustees and Deacons when she arrived at Church.
She enjoyed tending to her garden of flowers in the front of her home and her garden in the back of her home where she would often pull vegetables from to cook up a meal. She was also well known for her special coconut cake. If you couldn’t find her at home you were sure to find her on any sunny afternoon shopping at her favorite store, Lord & Taylors. “The Philadelphia Flower Show” was one of her favorite annual events. Her greatest asset was pouring into her family and friends to love everyone unconditionally. She did so unapologetically with an iron-fist teaching those in her path what is truly meant to fill the love of God’s presence on earth.
She leaves to cherish her memories, six daughters Jacquelyn, Joann, Althea , Sheila , Deborah , and Theresa. She leaves four Son in-laws, James, Lennox, Daniel, and Sam , Four sisters, Carlelda Burrell, Alice Jones-Riggins, Georgia Louise Jones and Betty Jean Sales, One brother, Henry Jones and Sister-in-Law’s, Eva Jones and Barbara Forbes; Grandchildren, Crystal, Cylenea, Tony, Andre, Shana, Erika, Auliya, Samia and Davida. Twenty-one (21) Great Grandchildren and a host of Nieces, Nephews, relative and friends.
My Poem to My Family
Do not stand by my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints on the snow
I am the sunlight ripening the grain
I am the gentle autumn rain, when you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet binds that circle flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night, do not stand by my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep…….. Mom
