Mrs.Pauline Dixon Carr,91, of Belmont,NC passed away Tuesday,May 5,2020 at her residence.

PAULINE DIXON CARR

Pauline Dixon Carr, daughter of Julius and Marybelle Dixon, was born in Gaston County, North Carolina on July 31, 1925. She was the youngest of seven children. Pauline departed this earthly life to be with the Lord from her home in Belmont, NC on May 5, 2020.

Pauline was married to her dearly beloved husband, William “Bill” Carr, for fifty-three years. They were parents to three daughters and a son. After Bill’s passing in 1998, Pauline wrote an endearing love story of their life together called, “I Lived With An Angel, reflecting on their experiences and love for one-another and of God. The angel in this story is the Angel that God sent to watch over them through the ups and downs of their life’s journey together. She was also a writer of many other wonderful and inspiring narratives and poetry. Examples include: “We Are Better Together” and Baby’s Dream—respectively, about the extended Dixon family and the African/slave roots of the family.

Pauline was a homemaker in the best sense, being the center of a warm, loving, and welcoming home environment whatever the circumstances. She createdmagical Christmases for her young children and grandchildren and special holiday and reunion celebrations for friends and family. Pauline also worked outside the home. She was a certified nurse assistant at Charlotte Memorial Hospital for many years and also did private-duty work. Most notably, she retired from Holy Angels in Belmont, a specialized care facility where she cared for children and youth who had serious intellectual and physical disabilities. At her own initiative, she taught them songs and Bible verses, and engaged them in simple dramas of Bible stories. One of her poems focused on how precious these differently abled children were to Jesus.

A prayer warrior, Pauline had a strong and committed faith in God and in the power of prayer. From the time of her marriage until her death, Pauline was a member of C.N. Jenkins Memorial Presbyterian Church (previously named Brandon Presbyterian). She was active in the Presbyterian Women’s Ministry (Circle 2), Bible Study, and Adult Sunday School. She was a key leader in helping establish and maintain the Church’s Intercessory Prayer Ministry in which she was a dedicated and fervent participant. For a brief time after moving from Charlotte to Belmont, Pauline played the piano for services at Henry’s Chapel AME Zion Church, the church of her parents and her youth. She also helped develop a written history of that historic church.

Pauline was a loving mother and grandmother and also a great friend to her children and grandchildren. The greatest thing a mother does is reflect God’s beauty to those she loves.” Pauline’s essence and heart cannot be captured in words, but it can be said here that she was a strong beautiful lady who was humble, caring, creative, generous, supportive, faithful, and full of gratitude. She was a quiet person who spoke loudly by her godly example. She will be missed, but memories of her and her influence will be long-cherished by many.

Pauline was preceded in death by her six siblings, herhusband Bill and son Carl Lee Dixon. She is survived by three daughters, Dr. Willine Carr, Rev. SherianLynn Carr, and Jackquelyn Carr; three grandchildren, William Jeffrey Carr, Carla Katrina Dixon, and Dr. Reginald Anthony Dixon; one great grandson,  Brandon Gilmore; one “play” granddaughter, JanalynWalton; a daughter-in-law, Vera Ann Dixon; a few cousins, including Mrs. Johnnie Braxton; many nieces and nephews in or from California, New York, Georgia, and North Carolina, including Frances Dale Dixon, Joyce Carter, and Patricia Smith; and a dearfriend among many, Mrs. Julia Vance. She also left behind the hand-written words saying: “IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL.”
